TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - After a year of fundraising, Capitol Federal gave more than $525,000 to an organization working to improve Topeka and the State.

The bank presented two checks Wednesday. One for more than $192,000 to the United Way of Greater Topeka and another for over $335,000 to different United Way's throughout Kansas.

All the money was raised by Capitol Federal employees at their locations around the state.

One CapFed employee and the ambassador for the campaign says her job was to understand the workings of United Way, and she realized the impact it has on the community.

"I was really able to get out there and see the work that the United Way does in our community and it really was truly life changing to see just the smallest little things can make a huge difference in somebody's life in our community," Janelle Simmons said. "So that was really important to see and understand that what we're doing is really good work."

Capitol Federal says it has a long-standing tradition of donating yearly to United Way.
