LINN, KS (WIBW) -- Music & Memory is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for elders in care facilities by promoting the use of personalized music through digital music technology. They train staff and other professionals as well as family caregivers how to create and provide personalized playlists using iPods.
The music enables those struggling with dementia, Alzheimer’s and other cognitive and physical challenges to reconnect with the world through music-triggered memories. The organization’s goal is to make this form of personalized therapeutic music a standard of care throughout the health care industry.
The Linn High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) partnered with the Linn Community Nursing Home in the fall of 2015 to help them implement the Music & Memory program. They have been highly involved in promoting, fundraising, public relations, and recruiting volunteers for the program. They are weekly volunteers with our own elders and have themselves seen the benefits of Music & Memory.
They made it their goal to purchase enough iPod Shuffles, related equipment and music to reach every resident at the Linn Community Nursing Home (LCNH) with the ability to listen to personalized music. To date their efforts have helped provide 35 iPods toward their goal of 50.
