TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — A large box truck crashed near Tecumseh to end a multi-county chase early Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the chase began around 1:45 p.m. when troopers tried to stop the vehicle at E700 Road in Douglas Co. They say someone stole a mattress delivery truck while an employee was making a delivery.
When the driver of the truck refused to stop, officers with the Lawrence Police Dept. and KHP troopers pursued it along US-40 into Shawnee Co. The truck crashed, apparently skidding along a guardrail, after authorities laid out spike strips and coming to a stop near I-70.
KHP said they did use force to take the driver into custody and the suspect was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
They have not released the name of the suspect.
