TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka teachers got a surprise Thursday.

For the 8th year, the Topeka Public Schools Foundation Grant Patrol visited several classrooms, giving teachers monetary awards.

They gave 35 grands to teachers at Robinson Middle School, Landon Middle School and Topeka West High School.

The money supports ideas teachers have for innovative projects in music, technology, art, science and theater.

"It's exciting because not often are they given the extra dollars to do something that goes above and beyond, so what a special day for all of us." said Pamela Johnson-Betts, Executive Director of the Topeka Public Schools Foundation Grant Patrol.

A total of $31,673 in grants were awarded.
