HIAWATHA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Cloudy weather didn't stop Hiawatha from shining in the spotlight as thousands descended onto their small town for the solar eclipse.
The City has been preparing for this day for nearly a year. At one point, they estimated 20,000 people would show up for their celebrations. Only 5,000 people or so ended up making their way to Hiawatha and city officials say the inclement weather was to blame.
Still, the city saw visitors from all across the country, including folks from Oklahoma and even as far away as New Jersey.
