TPD: Officer fired gun inside Topeka Taco Johns while apprehending suspect

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - No one was injured when a police officer fired a gunshot during an incident at the Taco Johns at SW 10th and Wanamaker, Topeka Police say.

The incident happened just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. TPD say officers were called to the restaurant after reports of a person causing a disturbance and displaying a firearm.

When officers arrived, they made contact with the suspect inside the store, identified as 18-year old Tieler Alan Lay of Topeka.

TPD says an officer fired a shot from their gun while apprehending Lay. No one was hit by the gunshot. One officer was treated for minor abrasions and released from a local hospital, otherwise no serious injuries were reported.

Lay was booked into Shawnee County Jail, and charged with disorderly conduct, four counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia & felony obstruction of justice.

Police say they confiscated illegal drugs and a firearm from Lay during his arrest.
