TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Governor Jeff Colyer has issued a Declaration of Disaster Emergency for a wildfire in southwest Kansas.
He made the announcement Sunday afternoon for the Wildland Fire Stevens County.
The State Emergency Operations Center in Topeka is being operated at enhanced alert due to a very high and extreme fire weather conditions across the state. The greatest threat is in the western half of the state.
Much of the state is currently under a Red Flag Warning from the National Weather Service for strong winds and dry conditions. Fires may spread rapidly out of control.
