Funeral services set for I-70 crash victims

TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW)--- Funeral services have been set for Dr. Sheldon Cohen, 83; Virginia Cohen, 79; and Ricardo Mireles, 38; all victims of a fiery Tuesday afternoon I-70 crash.

The Cohens will have a memorial service at the Bradbury Thompson Alumni Center located at 17th and Jewell on Wednesday, July 19 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The family is asking for donations to fund the Sheldon & Virginia Cohen Fund for Excellence in the Sciences at Washburn University.

Ricardo Mireles will have a memorial visitation at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 18th from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church starting at 11:00 a.m.

All three lost their lives after a tractor-trailer driver crested a slight hill and failed to slow in time for stalled traffic on I-70 near Bonner Springs.

Five people were killed in the crash, including Teresa Butler and Karen Lynn Kennedy who were from Illinois and Indiana respectively.
