TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — Frito-Lay is planning a major expansion to its operation in south Topeka.
According to information provided by the City's Planning Office, the company wants to build a 86,000 square foot warehouse.
The company filed the needed documents with the planning department that show they will expand their current facility near the Turnpike and Topeka Blvd.
A spokesperson for Frito-Lay told 13 NEWS they are "in the very early phases of the process, and have just begun to submit plans for zoning and other approvals."
"Since we are still working through the details of the project. we will share more as things come together," Alexia Allina added.
They are asking the city to rezone about 220,000 square feet of land for the project and provide a water and sewer line for the plant.
City Manager Brent Trout says this will be a boost for Topeka.
“It means an opportunity to see tax based growth and to see an existing business be able to expand and improve the operation that they currently have here,” he said.
The project will be presented to at the June 25 planning commission meeting.
