First female mayor of Council Grove passes away

COUNCIL GROVE, Kan. (WIBW)- The first female mayor of Council Grove in Morris County has passed away.

Charlene McRae was a life-long resident of Council Grove. She served as mayor from 1991-2003, and before that broke ground by becoming the first female Morris County commissioner, and city commissioner.

Her political career spanned 28 years total. McRae was also instrumental in the construction of the Neosho Riverwalk in Council Grove.

A celebration of her life will take place Friday at 10 a.m., at the Council Grove First Congregational Church.

Charlene McRae was 80 years old. She died early Wednesday at Morris County Hospital.
