TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A preliminary investigation into a central Topeka garage fire Sunday evening reveals it was intentionally set.
According to the fire department, firefighters could see "heavy" flames coming from the back of the detached garage behind a condemned home in the 2000 block of High Ave., near 21st Street.
TFD says its crews arrived on the scene and were able to get the blaze under control, but not until the heat from the flames damaged the siding on the home and other nearby structures.
Investigators estimated the damage to the garage at around $5,000 and added another $10,000 in damage to the neighboring buildings.
No one was home at the time of the fire.
In December 2017, a late night fire damaged the house at that address. Firefighters were able to knock down that blaze quickly and determined the home was vacant.
Investigators at that time also determined the fire was intentionally set and estimated its damage at around $7,500.
