According to the Topeka Fire Dept., firefighters were called to the home, in the 1500 block of SW Fillmore Street, on Wednesday around noon. Heavy smoke and flames were showing from the two-story house when they arrived.

TFD says firefighters attacked the fire not only to get it under control, also to keep it from spreading to nearby homes. A search of the home found no one inside, however the department noted there appeared to be signs of vagrant or transient activity.

The department's preliminary investigation could not determine the cause of the fire and the case remains open. Investigators estimated it did about $15,000 in damages.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 or 800-222-TIPS (8477).
