TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Topeka Police and Fire investigators are investigating after a body was found inside a vehicle that caught fire.

Authorities say a person approached an off-duty firefighter while shopping at a gas station at 15th and Adams and told them about the fire at Southeast 15th and Hudson.

Emergency responders were dispatched around 1:50 a.m. Saturday morning where they found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames.

Once the fire was out, firefighters found the body and alerted police. Detectives and fire investigators were called to the scene to begin the investigation.

Lt. Steve Roth said they are not sure how the person died.
