2 suspects flee after Lawrence store employee shot during robbery attempt

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) — The Lawrence Police Dept. is searching for two suspects who shot a convenience store employee early Friday morning.

According to police, officers found the 38-year-old victim shortly after 3:30 a.m. outside a west Lawrence Kwik Shop. He was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say two suspects approached the victim outside the store, 3440 W. 6th Street, and tried robbing him. During the robbery attempt, one of the suspects fired and hit the employee. They both then took off on foot, first heading north before turning left onto 5th Terrace.

Police described the first suspect as a black man, between 5'8"-5'10", wearing a red bandana over his face, a dark colored sweatshirt, and dark pants. The second suspect stood 6'2"-6'3" tall, and had a blue bandana over his face, a dark-colored hoodie and dark pants.

The investigation into the robbery attempt is still ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Lawrence and Douglas Co. at 785-843-8477 (TIPS).
