Meet Brad Pechanec
As a kid, I always loved going to the movies or watching movies in the comfort of my home. The older I got, the more intrigued I was by the aesthetics of filmmaking, whether it be camera angles, lighting, visual effects or sound.
My passion for filmmaking took me to Hutchinson Community College to study Broadcasting. In one of the classes entitled "Broadcast News" I was able to work as a producer, camera operator and a co-anchor for the weekly show. While at HCC, I was able to work as an Independent Contractor for ESPN and their broadcasting of NHRA events in Chicago, Topeka and Denver.
As I finished my schooling at HCC with an Associate's of Arts, my next venture took me to Washburn University to study Film and Video. I was able to learn extensively about lighting, DSLR cameras, AVID Media Composer and many other techniques that are used in a Hollywood setting. During my tenure. I was approached by then WIBW-TV Sports Director, JB Bauersfeld to help shoot sports part-time. In 6 months, I filmed everything from High School Sports, Kansas Football, Basketball and Track, Kansas State Football and Basketball, Sporting KC, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals as well as Washburn and Emporia State athletics. I was also fortunate to cover the 2013 MLS Cup, 2014 NCAA Tournament, Sunflower State Showdowns and the 2014 World Series. I developed a love for sports during that time and relish any chance I get to be able to shoot some form of athletic event.
After finishing with a Bachelor's Degree from Washburn, I was hired full-time in June as both a News and Sports Videographer. It's been a thrill to work in both environments and I love the fact that no two days are the same!
