State Not Paid Back Quickly for Tiller Reception

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ The state was not reimbursed for more than a
year for a reception with abortion provider Dr. George Tiller at the governor's residence.

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius' office says the reimbursement did not come until May 23. That was after it had received several requests for records related to the April 9, 2007 event.

Sebelius spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran said those requests led to
a discovery that the state hadn't been reimbursed. It then requested reimbursement from the Greater Kansas City Women's Political Caucus.

The governor's office has said Tiller won the right to attend the reception at Cedar Crest at an auction by the women's caucus.

Tiller, from Wichita, is among a few U.S. physicians performing late-term abortions.
