TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-Massive amounts of shoppers spending the thanksgiving holiday in topeka had no shortage of big deals to capitalize on late Thursday and throughout Friday.
Lines wrapped around the building at Toys-R-Us and people had been camping out for days in front of Best Buy in Topeka. West Ridge Mall welcomed shoppers at midnight and Friday morning there were plenty of early birds still looking for deals.
Deals, doorbusters and discounts. Hoards of shoppers flocked to Topeka's West Ridge Mall to save big on black friday despite large crowds.
Dianna McMillan, from Wichita was glad the chaos began to calm down before noon. "It hasn't been too bad, we got here a little later so we didnt have to wait in line too long and its been nice," she said.
The day signifies the beginning of the holiday shopping season and the point wheere retail stores begin to turn profit by getting into the black.
Employees at JC Penney felt positive about the early turnout this year, and long time retail worker Bob McCoy said it could be one of the best.
I've been in retail for 20 years and this is one of the best of them so far, as far as the steadiness and constant amount of people coming through the whole day," he said.
Despite being able to get some of the hottest deals of the holiday season, some black friday shoppers are a little disturbed that it's beginning to take away from their family Thanksgiving time.
Judi Dedge, from Seattle and visiting family in Topeka said, "I think it shouldn't be on thursday, that is reserved for a family day, it should all just be on black friday.
If you aren't a fan of the big crowds on black friday, you can still score some deals. Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday are both right around the corner.
