Topeka South Rotary Partners For School Shoe Programs

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- Topeka South Rotary Club has partnered with the YMCA, Payless ShoeSource® and local schools to reward students by putting shoes on the feet of those in need through its “Sole Mates” project. For the Rotary year of 2011 – 2012, the local club is hosting multiple field trips for students who have earned the opportunity to receive new shoes and socks by completing a job at their school.

For the month of December Topeka South Rotary will be putting a lot of these shoes on children’s feet utilizing a voucher program provided by Payless ShoeSource® through a grant awarded to the YMCA.

Rotary International is the world's first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs worldwide. Rotary club members are volunteers who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger, improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training, promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto, “Service Above Self.”
