An eighth grade wamego teacher has a new addition to his title for the year 2011.

2011's Kansas teacher of the year is .....Curtis Chandler an eighth grade language arts teacher and video game master at Wamego Middle School.

Chandler was presented the 2011 Kansas teacher of the year award by the Kansas Department of Education for excellence in teaching.

Something that helped him get this title... a program he developed to teach students skills needed to design their own video games.

Chandler was nominated by a fellow teacher.

After many interviews and reviews...he was selected out of 8 finalists.

This coming year all of the finalists will work as a team to visit different schools and talk about why teaching and education is important.

Chandler will receive a 4 thousand dollar cash award from security benefit, a lifelong learning scholarship to attend any school of his choice among many other rewards.
