TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -Kansas finally received some much needed rain Wednesday but one isolated area had to deal with much more than that.

People on North Topeka Boulevard near the Shawnee / Jackson County line saw gusts up to 70 miles per hour when the storm blew through around 5 PM.

One roof inspector could not believe how quick and hard the storms damaged the homes but residents are thankful for how fast neighbors and friends responded with help.

Matt Applehanz of Applehanz Roofing said "In my years of roofing i have never seen anything do this kind of damage."

Neighborhood resident Margaret Williams was overjoyed with how quick the help came. "This street, and the next was full of cars with people to help us. Perfect strangers stopped to ask how they could help us.

The national weather service said a "Microburst" most likely moved through the area.
