GEARY COUNTY, Kan. (WIBW) -- Authorities and volunteers spent hours Monday searching for an 84-year-old man with dementia who walked away from his Geary County farm.
The search finally came to end six hours later when Wayne Rogers, 84, was located.
Rogers lives alone on small farm on Red Road (about six miles south of Junction City) and suffers from dementia, according to Geary County Sheriff Tony Wolf.
Rogers made phone call to his son Monday from his house at 9:30 and when his home healthcare nurse showed up at 10 AM, he was not there.
The nurse called the Geary County Sheriff's Office and the search got underway.
Geary County deputies in patrol cars and ATVs spent the day trying to track Rogers down, with the help of neighbors. If the search continue into the evening, a helicopter equipped with thermal imaging was going to assist in scouring the area for signs of Rogers.
Officials and were concerned about hypothermia and exposure.
Rogers was found just before 5 PM about a half mile west of his house walking in a pasture, Sheriff Wolf confirmed.
He was taken to Geary Community Hospital to be checked out.
The Geary County Sheriff's Office, Geary County Rural Fire, Geary County Emergency Management, Kansas Wildlife and Parks and Kansas Highway Patrol took part in the search.
