TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- The Topeka Zoo announced Friday that a traveling exhibit, "The Penguin Plunge" will stop in the capital city for Summer 2012.
Zoo Director Brenden Wiley says The Penguin Plunge will include live African Penguins and interactive learning features.
Wiley introduced a special mascot for The Penguin Plunge Friday. Tux the penguin will travel promoting the special zoo exhibit.
Wiley says The Penguin Plunge will provide unique opportunities for the public to get involved with the zoo. The zoo is coordinating a "Pennies for Penguins" fundraiser, generating money that will help the zoo's animals. Wiley says the money will support animals locally and around the world.
The public will be able to visit the penguins from May 10th until September 30th at the Topeka Zoo.
A press conference for the exhibit announcement was interrupted Friday by "Batman." The caped man told the zoo he was looking for penguins, or evil Batman villain "The Penguin." Batman was told he'd have to come back in May.
