ABILENE, Kan. (AP) _ The Eisenhower museum in Abilene is
expecting hundreds of people to visit this week for a chance to see
an original copy of the Declaration of Independence.
Television producer Norman Lear unveiled the copy at the museum
on Monday. The public is invited to view it Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lear's family foundation owns the copy, which he bought for $8
million in 2000.
It is one of only 200 copies printed on July 4, 1776. Only 25 of
the copies are believed to still exist.
The stop in Abilene is part of a national tour coordinated by
Lear. He says he thinks it's important for citizens to see the
nation's birth certificate. He particularly wants young people to
understand its importance and be encouraged to become politically
