TOPEKA, Kan. – The City of Topeka will hold its second of two open houses to share details about the widening of SW 21st Street beginning in early 2013 on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Legend at Capital Ridge, 1931 SW Arvonia Place.
The first open house was Tuesday. About 40 people attended.
Beginning in March, SW 21st Street will be completely closed between just east of Arvonia Place west to Urish Road as contractors transform the roadway from a two-lane asphalt country road into a five-lane urban arterial complete with curbs, gutters, and sidewalks.
Representatives from the City and CFS Engineers, the City’s project consultant, will be on hand to share information and answer any questions on a one-on-one basis.
The cost of construction is estimated at $2.8 million. The project is expected to begin in mid-March and continue through to the end of the construction season late next fall. The route will be completely closed and work will take place during three phases, allowing access to area homes and residences.
