The new construction has also allowed for the installation of equipment, lighting, and refrigeration cases, which feature leading-edge designs. This new store will use 15% less energy per square foot than an average Dillons store and 25% less energy per square foot than a Dillons store did in the year 2000. A few upgrades include:

Lighting: Automated lighting system to maintain an energy-efficient schedule and motion sensors turn off lights in back rooms when no one is around. Compact fluorescent light bulbs to be updated at the front of the store will last longer and use less energy than regular light bulbs. Motion-activated LED lighting will also be used in the Dairy coolers and frozen food cases. Overhead skylights for natural lighting.

Cooling: An innovative program to electronically control the store’s refrigeration and heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems. New high-efficiency fan motors will use less electricity to keep food chilled to proper temperatures. An efficient heat recovery system also heats our air, keeping shoppers comfortable while saving energy.

Building materials: Open-ceiling design to greatly reduce the amount of building materials. Polished concrete floors to require less maintenance and chemical cleaning solvents.
