Monday 13 News told you about the national research council's report on the risks of placing the planned federal bio-defense lab in manhattan. Tuesday, the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and the community discussed their issues and concerns with a K-State researcher.

The 451 million dollar NBAF will research foot and mouth.. and other dangerous animal diseases that can be passed to humans.

The national research council identified 17 risks in their assessment. One concern...the lack of an early release detection and response system.

Kansas State University's Vice President of Research Dr. Ron Trewyn says there are risks with everything and all will be ironed out by the time it opens in 2018.

Jobs also were a hot topic.

Construction on the facility's central utility plant will begin next year.
The lab itself a year later in 2012.....with completion scheduled for 2018.
