Manhattan Mother & Daughter Hit By Car

Manhattan, KAN. (WIBW) -- A Manhattan woman and her daughter are recovering after they were both hit by car. Police say the child darted out into the street and her mother ran after her.

It happened Wednesday night around 7:15 PM in the 600 block of Poyntz Avenue at its intersection with Juliette Avenue.

Riley County police say 32-year-old Devi Koirali and her 8-year-old daughter Maitri Koirali were in the crosswalk waiting to cross the street when Maitri suddenly ran out into the street against the walk signal. Her mom ran to grab her and pull her back in but both were hit by a white 2007 Pontiac G5 traveling west on Poyntz Avenue.

Both mother and daughter were transported to Mercy Hospital in Manhattan. Devi Koirali , the mom, suffered a separated shoulder, a laceration to her left foot and abrasions to her arms, legs and head. Maitri Koirali suffered a concussion and abrasions to her face, arms and legs.
