MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Crews worked quickly to get a busy Manhattan roadway open Monday after a rockslide blocked several lanes of traffic.
All southbound traffic on Tuttle Creek Boulevard was diverted for three hours Monday morning, starting at 4:30 AM, due to a rockslide at the intersection of Tuttle Creek Boulevard and Casement Road.
Workers cleared rocks and debris from the road after a section of the rock wall crumbled along the west side of Tuttle Creek Boulevard. Riley County police warned drivers to expect delays and asked commuters to avoid the intersection. Northbound traffic was not affected.
The southbound lanes reopened at 7:30 AM.
Officials say the avalanche appears to be the result of a water line break at the Manhattan Country Club, which sits above the location of the slide.
No cars were damaged in the rockslide and no one was injured.
