MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Anthony Middle School in Manhattan was evacuated Tuesday morning after a bomb threat was discovered inside the school.
Communications Director for Manhattan-Ogden USD 383 Michele Jones says the threat was found in a bathroom at the school, located on Browning Avenue, around 9:30 AM. She could not say who found the threat.
Students were evacuated to St. Thomas More Catholic Church nearby on Kimball Avenue.
Parents were notified and students were released for the day at 11:00 AM. Parents could come and pick their children up at the church. Buses were also on hand to transport students home.
Members of the Riley County Police Department are investigating the incident. Officers were on scene searching for anything hazardous but they did not found anything unusual. RCPD officials said the threat was determined to be a hoax.
Jones said the school will resume classes as normal Wednesday.
