MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Manhattan High School choir members are getting ready to share the spotlight with one of the world's best-selling bands of all time. The choir has been practicing to take the stage with the rock band Foreigner this weekend.

Foreigner has sold nearly 80 million albums and brought us hits like “Cold as Ice,"“Waiting for a Girl Like You," "Feels Like the First Time" and "Hot Blooded," to name a few. With 10 multi-platinum albums and sixteen top 30 hits, Foreigner is universally hailed as one of the most popular rock acts of all time.

They're performing Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 7:30 PM at Kansas State University's McCain Auditorium.

"We have a small touring choir called the Varsity Choir and we were invited at the end of the summer to go on stage and sing with the band Foreigner that is on tour and coming through McCain Auditorium. They tour all over the nation and one of the things that they do that’s so cool is they always invite a high school group to come in and that group will help sell CDs before and after the concert to support the Grammy Foundation," said Chad Pape, MHS Choir Director.

The Grammy Foundation provides funds for high school music programs to help keep music education alive in our nation's schools.

Foreigner is donating $500.00 to the choir for its choir program.

"During the concert right at the finale, we’re going to go up on stage and sing the chorus to “I Want To Know What Love Is” with the band. It’s looking to be a lot of fun. It’s gotten a lot of good publicity and the kids are really excited about it,' Pape said.

"It’s really exciting and just kind of mind blowing that we’ll be singing with the band Foreigner," added Macy Lanceta, MHS Choir Member.

Pape explained: "The band doesn’t send you any sheet music or anything. They actually send you a CD and you learn it all by ear and there are just hundreds of You Tube videos of other high schools that have gotten to do this all around the country so we’ve watched a lot of those and seen how the procedure works. It’s so much fun. We do a lot of different things with the choirs. We went out and did more than 70 performances last school year and so everything new things we get to do, every new experience we have is really cool and really special to us and so we’re really excited to go do it."

"We’ve been doing our research. We’re excited," Lanceta added.

Choir members say the performance will be an unforgettable experience for them and they're ready to hit the stage with the famous band and help raise money for a great cause.
