MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Road crews in Manhattan continued working Friday, clearing streets in the aftermath of this week's snowfall.

While many businesses reopened, schools were still out and Kids found some great spots for sledding, including the hills at Cico Park.

"We’re having so much fun with a couple of days off school and we get to just play. We don’t get out and drive in it too much so we stay safe. We’re from Louisiana so this is a novelty for us so we’re super excited," said Melita Bizette who brought her daughters to the park.

But for others, this massive blast of winter meant all work and no play.

City road crews worked to tackle Manhattan’s main roadways and then residential areas.

"We’re still working on those side streets and residential areas. We’re plowing and treating all of those. It takes a while to make it through all of those but our hope is that we’ll be through will those later tonight and have that pretty well wrapped up," said Jeff Walters, Manhattan Street Superintendent in an interview Friday.

The snow from places likes Downtown Manhattan, the Aggieville District and city-owned parking lots was hauled to the city park. Those streets can’t be plowed because then people wouldn’t be able to park there and access the sidewalks.

"This storm was of some significance. I think we probably had in the 7-8 inch neighborhood and that’s a decent storm for us. One of the things that presented a little bit of a problem yesterday was how fast the snow came down. It came down at a very high rate," Walters added.

Meanwhile, authorities in both Riley and Geary County said there were mo major car accidents on area roadways during the snow storm and thanked drivers for being cautious and heeding warnings to stay off the roads.
