TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka and Shawnee County Public Library is all about offering a variety of programs and services and also making it convenient.
The convenience factor is behind the Smart Locker program at Topeka's Oakland Community Center. The Smart Locker allows people to pick up the items they have reserved from the library at an off-site location. Items may include books, movies, music and magazines.
It's the first of two Smart Lockers that will be installed as a pilot project to see if this is something that allows people to use the library more conveniently. Library officials say the partnership with the Oakland Community Center builds on their existing relationship with Shawnee County Parks and Recreation. The library also offers six computers, a printer and events like song writing, crochet, art introduction and resume writing.
