TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -This weekend will provide plenty of chances for families to enjoy the labor day holiday but there is no bigger family event this weekend than the 2012 Grant Fest.

All Labor Day weekend there will be fun for all ages.

This years Grant Fest began with a walk around state grounds. It's organizers believe that by taking small steps to change the mindsets within the community, it can lead to large gains and positive outcomes for today's youth.

Curtis Pitts, an event coordinator says, " One thing is, young kids learn from those closest to them in age and they need to know that if you can play outside you can work outside and we need to spend less time sitting around and be more active in our community. We need to clean up our neighborhoods and then the rest of the community in Topeka will jump in and get involved.

The festival gets its name from Grant Cushinberry a man known throughout the community for putting his faith and others before himself. All weekend long Topekans can visit Cushinberry Park for food, fun and music in a positive way just like Grants legacy.

Spokesman of the event and relative of Grant, Dale Cushinberry said, "The beauty of it is that its all free and its an opportunity for the community to enjoy eachother and the city and remember a man who gave much."
