KU Lecture To Focus On Illegal Immigration's Roots

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ The history of illegal immigration in the
U.S. is the topic of a lecture next week at the University of
Kansas.

Mae Ngai (NIH'-geye) is a professor of history and Asian studies
at Columbia University.

Ngai will give a historical overview of American immigration
policy since colonial times in her lecture on March 10 at 7:30 p.m.
in the Kansas Union. A reception and book signing will follow.

She'll also talk to faculty, staff and students March 11 at 10
a.m. in the Hall Center Conference Hall.

Her most recent book is ``The Lucky Ones: One Family and the
Extraordinary Invention of Chinese America.'' She also wrote
``Impossible Subjects: Illegal Aliens and the Making of Modern
America.''
