TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -A review of Go Topeka sparked debate at Wednesday's Joint Economic Development Organization meeting.
IO. Inc performed the independent review and gave glowing remarks, but two city council members who sit on JEDO were skeptical of the review because Go Topeka paid for it themselves.
Founder of IO. Inc, Ionna Morfessis stands by her company's reputation of objectivity saying, "The fact is that regardless of who engaged us in this work our results would have been absolutely the same. We have one thing in this world and that's reputation.
She also said the review shows that GoTopeka's economic development and marketing is on par with large booming cities like Oklahoma City, Atlanta and Dallas.
City Council member Chad Manspeaker was one that saw the review as flawed saying "An objective review should have positive and negative comments and the only negative was about JEDO and thats on our end."
Manspeaker also said "I think the JEDO body exists independently of GoTopeka and it's our responsiblity as tax payers to make sure these dollars are spent in the best possible way and right now i cannot go to my constituents and say this body is spending their money wisely."
One problem IO. Inc did point out in its review was the relationship between jedo and Go Topeka, which members agreed to work on.
