May is the month of graduations and, to celebrate Be Kind to Animals Week (May 6th through May 12th), HHHS will have its own graduation by hosting an Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, May 12th. We will be extending our adoption hours in hopes of “graduating” all animals in-care to new homes. Adoptions will take place between 11:30am and 9:00pm. On this day, adopters will enjoy a graduation diploma for their new pet and a special graduation gift bag courtesy of Hill’s Pet Nutrition.

All adoptable animals will have discounted adoption fees according to their age:

Elementary graduates (pets under 1 year of age) $10 off adoption fee
High School graduates (pets 1 to 6 years of age) $20 off adoption fee
College graduates (pets 7 years +) $30 off adoption fee

Sterilization deposits and spay /neuter fees still apply to all adopted animals. HHHS holds only two Adopt-A-Thons each year: one in May and one in December. Support homeless pets and please choose adoption.

Animal shelters, such as HHHS, offer a variety of services to assist animals and the public. Among many things, they provide a sanctuary for lost pets, protection from abuse, and health and behavior assessments. One of the most rewarding aspects of an animal shelter is finding new homes for pets. Animal shelters also provide an educational outlet and guidance to assist the public with animal-related issues and concerns, from dealing with training issues to behavior issues.

HHHS has been a permanent part of the Topeka community since its founding May 4, 1938. The organization is incorporated as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) business for the purpose of sheltering companion animals in need of care, advocating for anti-cruelty protection of animals and promoting humane education and animal welfare issues.

HHHS fosters the adoption of companion animals into responsible homes and reunites lost animals with their owners; promotes sterilization of animals to help reduce overpopulation; provides a facility accessible to the general public; serves the community with educational programs addressing animal welfare issues; and maintains a fiscally responsible organization.
