TOPEKA, Kan (WIBW) -This upcoming school year high school students in Kansas can have college tuition paid for if they take qualified technical courses offered at Kansas Yechnical and Community Colleges.
Governor Sam Brownback talked about the program at the Washburn Institute of Technology in Topeka.
He encouraged students to jump at the opportunity for a free education. "I'm excited about this program it's one I proposed in the budget and the legislature voted strongly in favor of it. It is critical for us and it will clearly pay out in the long term in having students get a higher wage and in being able to attract employers to the area.
The incentive program will also give school districts $1,000 for each high school student who graduates from that district with an industry-recognized credential in a high need occupation.
