MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Dog lovers were out in full force in the Little Apple Saturday to see some tiny canines strut their stuff and take part in some friendly competition.
The 12th Annual Weenie Dog Races were held in downtown Manhattan Saturday morning, bringing dogs and their owners from all over the Midwest to the doggie track to see the pooches head towards the finish line.
Due to the construction on Poyntz Avenue, the events were held in the city parking lot at 3rd Street and Houston.
Some of the dogs were quick on the track while others decided to take it slower and enjoy the experience. Some couldn’t seem to figure out which way to run but everyone seemed to have a good time.
After the races, the dogs took part in a fashion show. They competed in different categories including Male Best-In-Show, Female Best-In-Show, Most Original Look, Best Dog & Owner Look-A-Like, Diva Dog and Rock Star Dog.
Local vendors were on hand during the event, offering pet owners nutritious food for their dogs, grooming and information on how to keep their dogs happy and healthy. Area adoption agencies were also present.
