WAMEGO, Kan. (WIBW) -- It was a story that touched many of WIBW's viewers- a Wamego couple celebrating their 79th wedding anniversary and revealing their advice to other couples for such a long and happy marriage.

Gladys Wille, 99, and Gilbert Wille, 103, marked their 79th anniversary this past March and they sat down with 13 News at the time to talk about their incredible romance.

"Always be kind to your partner. If you get mad, walk away. Don’t fight," Gilbert said when asked if they had any advice for other couples.

Viewers loved the glimpse into such a remarkable love story- it was "liked" by hundreds of Facebook followers and many left comments congratulating the couple and marveling over their unwavering devotion to one another.

Sadly, Gilbert and Gladys' daughter informed the station this week that Gilbert passed away on May 2, 2013 at his residence in Wamego.

"It is a sad time for us. He was a special man," their daughter, Karen Cox, said..

Services will be held in Wamego on May 25th.

Gilbert worked in the Wamego City Park and gave rides on its famous train to many children. His family asked that memorial contributions be made to the Wamego Community Foundation Train Fund or the Immanuel Faith Community Church of Wells Creek.

Gladys and Gilbert have two children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and decades of memories together.

Their love will continue to inspire others for years to come.
