MANHATTAN, Kan. (WIBW) -- Construction continues at Kansas State University where the football stadium is being overhauled to feature a massive new structure on the west side.

The university broke ground on the $75 million West Stadium project at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in late April and officials say things are on track. Construction will continue throughout the 2012 football season.

"The idea is that we want to enhance the overall fan experience for everybody involved. There will be improved facilities from everything from concessions to suites- we’ll have several levels of suites available to the general public. There will also be a Hall of Fame where we can have exhibits of various players and the history of K-State football," David McMullen, Assistant University Architect and Project Manager for the stadium renovations.

On top of expansive concession and restroom facilities, the new structure will also feature a new ticket office and K-State retail locations, a student-athlete dining hall, new club and loge seats as well as a new press/media level.

The stadium construction is the largest single project ever undertaken on Kansas State University’s campus and it’s being made possible entirely by donations.

During the upcoming season, crews will be building around the current press box and then it will be demolished after the last home game to create the final product.

The approximate 250,000 gross square-foot facility will replace the stadium's original facilities built in 1969 and the Dev Nelson Press Box opened in 1993.

"The idea for the fan experience this fall is going to be as much interest in what is going on as it is maybe what it’s going to be when it’s done... All the fans will be directed safely through the construction, around the construction..The stadium will stand as an icon to Kansas State University for 100 years or more," McMullen added.

Officials say the new and improved stadium will be ready for the first game of the 2013 season.
