KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Kansas City Chiefs and Community Blood Center are teaming up for their 16th Annual Chiefs Week Blood Drive November 25-30. The event started in 1998 as a way to boost blood donations right before the winter holidays.

"The winter holidays are a time we typically struggle with blood donations," said David Graham, Vice President, Donor and Hospital Services for Community Blood Center. "People are travelling, shopping and preparing for the holiday season with friends and family," Graham said.

The blood drive has grown tremendously during the 15 years and is now a week-long event at all seven Community Blood Center locations and mobile drives. CBS collected 359 pints of blood at the first one-day Chiefs Blood Drive event in 1998. At the 2012 event, there were more than 1,700 registered donors who participated in the week-long drive.

All registered donors will receive a free Chiefs t-shirt and can enter to win autographed Chiefs memorabilia.

Community Blood Center provides blood and blood products to 70 hospitals in 70 counties in Kansas and Missouri. CBC must collect 580 units of blood each day in order to meet the demand of those hospital partners, physicians and patients.

The requirements to donate are few; you must be at least 16 years of age, weigh a minimum of 115 pounds and be in generally good health. In just 60 minutes you can donate one pint of blood and save a life.
