Geary County, KAN. (WIBW) -- A school bus carrying children in kindergarten and elementary school collided with a pick-up truck Tuesday morning in Geary County.

It happened on US Highway 77 near Dundon Road in Milford just before 8 AM.

Kansas State Troopers say the Junction City bus, driven by Robert Rodney Jr., was at the stop sign on Dundon Road and pulled out onto Highway 77 without yielding to traffic and t-boned a 1999 Ford pick-up truck, driven by 42-year-old Cynthia Haberer-Deckard from Clay Center.

The bus had 27 children on board, in kindergarten and elementary school. Troopers say the children were scared and were checked out by emergency responders. No one was injured and another bus was brought out to the accident scene so the students could be transported to nearby Milford Elementary School.

The bus sustained damage to the front end and the victim's car was destroyed, according to troopers. They say the bus hit Haberer-Deckard's truck behind her seat on the driver's side but if it had struck closer to the front, they think she would have been very seriously injured.

The bus driver was cited for failing to yield to cross traffic. Officials say the driver told them he did not see the victim's truck.
