Armed Suspect Shot by Police Named

Topeka police say an officer shot a man he believed was armed.. as that man ran from police early Wednesday morning.

TPD has now released the name of the suspect. Tthe man who was shot by a Topeka police officer is James E. Anderson Jr. and a 13 news review of Shawnee County court documents indicates

Anderson has had multiple run ins with the law. A routine traffic stop, escalated to a police chase and gunfire. Police tell 13 news 31 year old James Edward Anderson Jr. led officers on a chase around 12:30 Wednesday morning in the 2800 block of Colorado Avenue in the Highland Park area of Southeast Topeka.

The chase ended a few blocks away on Sotheast Michigan when police say one of the two men in the car ...displayed a weapon.

The two officers-- who police will not identify -- were not injured and are on administrative leave until an investigation conducted by Shawnee County sheriff's department is complete.

Police say Anderson was armed... but won't say whether he pointed a weapon at officers.

A passenger in anderson's vehicle was questioned and later released.
