Rally for Rights

A rally to save the Topeka Human Relations Commission and department was held Saturday.

If you've ever been discriminated against Topeka's Human Relations Commission would be a place for you to file your complaint.

A civil rights protest found its way to the historic site Brown versus Board of education in support of the Topeka Human Relations Rights Commission and department which may be headed in a different direction.

The restructuring of the agency would eliminate 3 staff members and remove the HRC's enforcement and investigatory powers.

Employment and public accomodation cases would then be handled by the state... Kansas Human Relations Commission.

With the city facing a massive budget deficit city manager Norton Bonaparte believes restructuring organizations like the HRC will save money and allow them to continue but HRC doesnt buy it.
