Cash for Cabooses

The Great Overland station is trying to get on the fast track to acquiring new train cars and a depot.

In 2007 Marvin Robertson of Lawrence in his will left a refrigerator car, baggage car, business car, caboose and depot to be donated to the Great Overland Station.

The staff there is now raising money in order to bring the cars and depot to Topeka. They say its a wonderful opportunity to bring a railroad park to the museum.

Right now they need $450,000 to transfer equipment and to do what needs to be done on site.

Bringing train cars to the space at the Great Overland Station will be costly but fundraisers say the value to the community..priceless.

The train cars and depot are currently located on Highway 56 between Overbrook and Baldwin.

The museum has till September 1st to transport them here if not another museum can snatch them up.
