OSKALOOSA, Kan. (WIBW)_ The man accused of killing a Jefferson Co. farmer was found guilty of 2nd Degree Murder on Monday. Adam Hooper was charged with killing Dale Kingsbury in August 2009.
The defense claimed Hooper was insane and he underwent a psychological evaluation before being found competent to stand trial. Prosecutors had sought first degree murder.
56 year-old Kingsbury was found in a cistern on his own farm last summer. Hooper had been staying on the farm in exchange for work.
During the trial, bloodstained evidence was presented along with pictures of the home where the alleged killing took place.
Prosecutors also played first recorded interview between Hooper and detectives during which Hooper said he beat Kingsbury more than a hundred times.
In an interview with detectives, Hooper had said he was overworked by Kingsbury and suffered with schizophrenia.
The Kingsbury family told us what caused Hooper's violent action could have been jealousy over what he thought was his girlfriend flirting with Kingsbury.
Hooper will be sentenced June 8th.
