In this week's art talk we take a look at the art of dance. Ballet Midwest stepped out Saturday night for its first performance of "Sleeping Beauty" in 10 years. But before those pointe shoes hit the TPAC stage many rehearsals took place.
Barbara Ebert, artistic director, says, "last time we did it it was such an extravagant production I said we'd never do it again."
10 years later she changed her mind.
"We decided it was time to bring it out again," she says.
This theatrical as well as ballet production of "Sleeping Beauty" has a host of characters but... could not go on without its leading lady Princess Aurora.
All that hard work paid off for them with a successful opening night at the Topeka Performing Arts Center.
Tchaikovsky's "Sleeping Beauty" went off without a hitch. The night was filled with sparkling fairies... spells.. fantastic characters from old storybooks and of course a perfect fairy-tale ending.
