Wonderful spring like weather outside but with that nice weather comes certain dangers.
Typically this is the best time of the year for most farmers to begin agricultural controlled burning but there are some concerns the fire department wants to make everyone aware of.
Scott Price, Battalion Chief for Shawnee Heights Fire District says, "Fires can get out of control very quickly before people realize. Another problem is the issue with snow that's melted... gets soft and difficult for fire dept to get access."
If your outside the city limits contact your local fire department and find out whether or not they are allowing burns. Also make sure you're far enough away from structures that could be at risk.
"Wind a big issue for everyone..what people don't understand about wind is that its driving the fire. Wind is drying fuels to make it much more volatile," says Chief Price.
There were no controlled burns conducted Wednesday due to those weather conditions but Chief Price says he's had 175 burn permits come through his fire station alone.
