Highland Park High School's Future

Concerned parents...teachers and community members met at Highland Park High School Monday morning to address rumors of the school closing.

As of right now Highland Park High School will not close.

USD 501 members are working on a model in order to gain a grant. The model would look at schools that are in similar predicaments nationwide with similar low performance issues.

Word of a public meeting sparked concern...but school leaders quickly worked to calm those fears.

Highland Park High School closing is not a target option in the school district. However a high school improvement grant is...which could be anywhere between 50,000 to 2 million dollars for 3 years.

Dale Cushinberry, principal of Highland Park High School says, "between now and May 1st we're going to be working very hard ..working on model. One of the things the grant insists is that you have a comprehensive model. Try to figure out every way we can enhance the model so scores come up and children are learning."

Many at the meeting see this as an opportunity to do wonders not only with Highland Park but in the school district.
