TOPEKA, Kansas - Thirty-nine of 46 Kansas National Guardsmen are home from their mission to help Haiti after an earthquake hit on January 12, 2010.
They returned to Kansas on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010.
Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010, the airmen from the 190th Civil Engineering Squadron were back at Forbes Field in Topeka to go through in-processing.
Seven of their fellow airmen remain in Haiti to build infrastructure to sustain continuing humanitarian operations.
As part of their annual two-week training requirement, members of the 190th deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to assist with several bas construction projects on January 4, 2010. Following the disaster in Haiti, 190th members were tasked with assessing personnel and equipment for providing disaster relief response at the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo.
Additional personnel and supplies were deployed to Cuba on January 22, 2010. A number of the airmen later deployed to Haiti to assist with logistics operations and to assemble an Expeditionary Medical Support hospital in Port-Au-Prince.
